Description
Texas Toast Bread is a thick, soft, and fluffy homemade white bread loaf with a tender crumb and golden crust. Perfect for toasting, sandwiches, French toast, or dipping into soups, this easy bread recipe delivers bakery-style results using simple pantry ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon cane sugar
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 4 cups bread flour (480 g), spooned and leveled
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil (avocado or vegetable)
Instructions
- Activate yeast: In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 10 minutes until foamy.
- Form dough: Add flour, salt, and oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead: Knead 10 minutes by hand or 7 minutes with a dough hook until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
- Shape loaf: Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9×5-inch pan.
- Second rise: Cover and rise 45–60 minutes until dough rises just above pan edge.
- Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool: Remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- Measure flour accurately: Too much flour can make bread dense.
- Let bread cool: Slicing too early can squash the loaf.
- Yeast check: If yeast doesn’t foam, it may be inactive.
- Storage: Store wrapped at room temperature up to 4 days or freeze sliced.
