Spooky Spider Deviled Eggs – A Creepy-Cute Halloween Potluck Favorite

  • Author: Lyndy
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 24 halves 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Classic deviled eggs get a creepy-cute upgrade with black olive “spiders” perched on top. These Spooky Spider Deviled Eggs are creamy, tangy, budget-friendly, and perfect for Halloween potlucks, parties, or spooky snack boards—easy to make, fun to serve, and guaranteed to disappear fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 (6 oz) can whole black olives, pitted (for “spiders”)
  • Optional: Paprika or black sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs: Place eggs in a pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil, cover, turn off heat, and let sit 12 minutes. Transfer to an ice bath to cool completely.
  2. Peel & halve: Gently peel cooled eggs. Slice lengthwise and remove yolks to a bowl; set whites on a platter.
  3. Make the filling: Mash yolks smooth, then mix in mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  4. Fill the whites: Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture back into the egg whites, mounding slightly.
  5. Create olive “spiders”: Halve olives lengthwise. Use one half as the spider body. Slice the other half into thin legs (6–8). Place a body atop each egg and arrange legs on the sides.
  6. Garnish & chill: Dust with paprika or sprinkle black sesame seeds if desired. Chill until serving.

Notes

  • Peeling tip: Slightly older eggs peel easier. Shock in an ice bath to prevent green rings.
  • Neat filling: For a cleaner look, pipe filling with a zip-top bag (corner snipped) or star tip.
  • Dry whites: Pat egg whites dry before filling so the mixture stays put.
  • Make-ahead: Prepare up to 24 hours in advance; store covered. Add olive spiders just before serving for best look.
  • Variations: Add a dash of sriracha or chipotle for heat; stir in relish for tang; blend avocado or pesto for a green “goblin” hue.
  • Food safety: Keep chilled and limit to 2 hours at room temperature on the buffet.
