Description

When it comes to gathering friends and family for a barbecue, game day, or potluck, Sour Cream and Onion Party Potatoes are a must-have side dish that never fails to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

    • 4 cups peeled and thinly sliced potatoes (Yukon gold or red potatoes work well)

    • 1 cup sour cream

    • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened

    • 1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix

    • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

    • ½ cup crushed buttery crackers or breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for topping)

    • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease your baking dish.

    1. In a large bowl, combine the sour cream, softened cream cheese, and dry onion soup mix until smooth.

    1. Add the sliced potatoes to the sauce mixture and stir gently until all potatoes are coated evenly. Season with salt and pepper.

    1. Transfer the coated potatoes into the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.

    1. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

    1. If using, mix the crushed crackers with melted butter and sprinkle over the cheese for a crunchy topping.

    1. Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

    1. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden, and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.

    1. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced potatoes to ensure even cooking and tender bites.
  • Softened cream cheese blends better into the sauce for a smooth texture.
  • Dry onion soup mix adds savory depth but you can substitute with fresh sautéed onions and garlic.
