Seafood Pot Pie : A Comforting Dish

If you love rich, creamy seafood dishes, this Seafood Pot Pie is the ultimate Cajun comfort food!

For the Filling:

    • 2 tablespoons butter

    • 1 small onion, diced

    • 2 cloves garlic, minced

    • 1 celery stalk, chopped

    • 1 small bell pepper, diced (red or green)

    • ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning

    • ¼ teaspoon paprika

    • ¼ teaspoon thyme

    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

    • ½ teaspoon salt

    • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

    • 1 ½ cups seafood stock or chicken broth

    • ½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half

    • ½ cup frozen peas

    • 1 cup shrimp, peeled and chopped

    • 1 cup crab meat

    • ½ teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    1. Lightly grease a pie dish or individual ramekins.

Step 2: Cook the Seafood Filling

    1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.

    1. Add onions, garlic, celery, and bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.

    1. Stir in Cajun seasoning, paprika, thyme, salt, and black pepper.

    1. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well, cooking for 1 minute.

    1. Slowly whisk in seafood stock and heavy cream, stirring until thickened.

    1. Add peas, shrimp, and crab meat, cooking for 3-4 minutes until shrimp turns pink.

    1. Stir in hot sauce (if using), then remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3: Assemble the Pot Pie

    1. Pour the seafood filling into the pie dish or ramekins.

    1. Roll out the puff pastry or pie crust and place it over the filling.

    1. Press the edges to seal, then cut small slits on top for steam to escape.

    1. Brush with egg wash for a golden, crispy crust.

Step 4: Bake & Serve

    1. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

    1. Let cool for 5 minutes, then serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

    • Use fresh seafood – Fresh shrimp and crab meat add the best flavor.

    • For a gumbo twist – Add smoked sausage or okra to the filling.

    • Make it extra creamy – Stir in cream cheese or extra butter.
