Description

If you’re craving the creamy, cheesy, and savory flavors of chicken cordon bleu but want something more fun and shareable, look no further than this Chicken Cordon Bleu Stromboli Recipe.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or stromboli dough recipe homemade)
  • 1 ½ cups cooked chicken breast, sliced or shredded
  • 68 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices of turkey ham or beef-style deli ham (optional if avoiding pork)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional, for creaminess)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for brushing post-bake)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Oven
Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll Out the Dough
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 10×14 inches.
  3. Layer the Fillings
Spread Dijon mustard (and mayo, if using) evenly over the center of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides.
Layer slices of Swiss cheese down the center, followed by ham (or substitute), then the shredded chicken.
  4. Fold and Seal the Stromboli
Fold the long sides over the filling, then tuck in the ends to seal. Carefully flip the seam-side down onto the baking sheet.
Use a sharp knife to cut a few small slits in the top for steam to escape.
  5. Add Egg Wash and Seasoning
Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish. Sprinkle with garlic powder, parsley, and Parmesan if using.
  6. Bake
Place in the oven and bake for 22–25 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked.
Remove from oven and brush with melted butter for extra flavor and sheen.
  7. Cool and Slice
Let it cool for 5 minutes, then slice and serve warm. The cheese should be perfectly melted and the crust crisp.

Notes

Don’t overfill—too much filling can cause leaks or soggy dough. Be sure to leave a clean edge for sealing. Chill your filling slightly if it’s very warm to prevent steam build-up. For extra flavor, layer fresh spinach or caramelized onions. Always preheat the oven fully—this helps crisp the bottom crust.
