Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 ⅔ cups (210g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
Rolling and Coating:
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
- Add wet ingredients: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla, vinegar, and red food coloring until evenly combined.
- Combine dough: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Chill the dough: Cover and refrigerate for 1–2 hours until firm enough to handle.
- Shape and coat: Scoop 1-inch dough balls, roll each in granulated sugar, then in powdered sugar.
- Bake: Place dough balls 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Bake for 10–12 minutes until tops crack and centers are slightly soft.
- Cool: Let cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Chill the dough for at least 1 hour for best crinkle texture.
- Roll generously in powdered sugar for that signature snow-like look.
- Don’t overbake — the cookies should remain soft in the center.
- Use quality cocoa powder for a rich, velvety flavor.
- Add ½ cup white or dark chocolate chips for an indulgent twist.
