For the Dough:
- 3¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1–2 teaspoons pink gel food coloring (or beet powder)
For the Filling:
- ⅓ cup butter, melted
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For the Frosting:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate yeast: Combine warm milk and sugar, add yeast, and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Make dough: Mix in butter, egg, salt, food coloring, and flour. Knead until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Cover and let dough rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Roll & fill: Roll dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- Shape rolls: Roll tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Second rise: Place in greased pan and let rise 30–45 minutes.
- Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22–25 minutes until lightly golden.
- Frost: Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
- Make-ahead: Prepare rolls the night before and refrigerate after shaping.
- Natural color: Beet powder or strawberry powder can replace food coloring.
