Pickle Grilled Cheese Sandwich : A Comfort Favorite

Ready to elevate your grilled cheese game? This Tangy Pickle Twist on Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a flavor-packed, crunchy, and creamy reinvention of a timeless comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 slices of bread (sourdough, white, rye, or your favorite)
  • 23 slices of cheddar cheese (or cheese of your choice)
  • 35 dill pickle slices or sandwich stackers (drained and patted dry)
  • 12 tablespoons butter (for spreading on the bread)
  • Optional: a swipe of mustard, hot sauce, or mayonnaise for extra zing

Cheese Ideas:

  • Sharp cheddar – for classic grilled cheese flavor
  • Havarti – for creamy, mild balance
  • Pepper Jack – if you want some spice
  • Provolone – for a gooey, stretchier melt

Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients

Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered sides, layer your cheese and pickles. Add any optional spreads or condiments at this point.

Stack the sandwich so the buttered sides are facing out and the cheese and pickles are on the inside.

Step 2: Grill the Sandwich

Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place the sandwich in the pan and cook slowly to allow the cheese to melt without burning the bread. Grill for about 3–4 minutes per side, pressing slightly with a spatula.

You’ll know it’s ready when the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is fully melted.

Step 3: Slice and Serve

Remove from the skillet and let rest for a minute. Slice in half and serve immediately with your favorite sides—potato chips, tomato soup, or a crunchy pickle spear.

Notes

  • Dry Your Pickles – Pat pickles dry with a paper towel to prevent soggy bread.
  • Use Low to Medium Heat – This ensures the cheese melts evenly while the bread gets golden.
  • Go Bold with Cheese – Stronger cheeses stand up to the acidity of pickles.
