Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes combine all the savory, cheesy flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak with the messy, satisfying fun of a sloppy joe. Perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings, this easy recipe is ready in just 30 minutes and will quickly become a family favorite!

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb (450g) lean ground beef 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 small onion, diced 1 small green bell pepper, diced 1 small red bell pepper, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons ketchup 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening) 1 cup beef broth Salt and black pepper, to taste 6 slices provolone cheese 4–6 hamburger buns Optional: Ground turkey or chicken instead of beef Sliced mushrooms American or cheddar cheese Pickled jalapeños for spice

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary. 2. Add diced onion, green and red peppers to the skillet and sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for another minute. 3. In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and cornstarch. Pour into the skillet and stir well. 4. Simmer the beef mixture for 3–4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Adjust seasoning as needed. 5. Toast hamburger buns lightly, if desired. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. 6. Top each sandwich with a slice of provolone cheese and the top half of the bun. Serve warm.

Notes

• Toast the buns for better texture and to prevent sogginess. • Use lean ground beef for less grease. • Keep the vegetables slightly crisp for extra texture. • Let the sauce simmer so the flavors meld beautifully.
