Description

Maple Glazed Donuts are soft, fluffy, and coated in a rich, glossy maple glaze that melts in your mouth. This easy homemade recipe captures the warmth and sweetness of classic bakery-style donuts — perfect for cozy mornings, weekend brunches, or dessert. Whether baked or fried, these donuts bring café-quality flavor right to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (if frying)

For the Maple Glaze

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk (adjust for consistency)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until combined.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour into dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  3. Shape the Donuts: For frying, roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut out donuts. For baking, spoon batter into a greased donut pan, filling each cavity 2/3 full.
  4. Cook the Donuts: To fry, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and cook 1–2 minutes per side until golden. To bake, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes.
  5. Cool Before Glazing: Let donuts cool 10 minutes on a wire rack before dipping in glaze.
  6. Make the Maple Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, milk, and salt until smooth. Dip each donut, twist gently, and let set for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use real maple syrup for authentic flavor — pancake syrup won’t give the same depth.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep donuts soft and tender.
  • Check oil temperature with a thermometer to avoid greasy donuts.
  • Let glaze set completely before stacking or storing.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container up to 2 days, or freeze unglazed donuts for 2 months.
