Description
There’s nothing quite like the cozy, comforting flavor of maple in a homemade dessert. These Maple Cookies with Maple Icing are everything you want in a soft, sweet treat.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Cookies:
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (110g) packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp maple extract
- 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
For the Maple Icing:
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp maple syrup (real maple syrup preferred)
- ¼ tsp maple extract (optional, for stronger flavor)
- Splash of milk or cream for consistency (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy—about 2 minutes.
- Add wet ingredients: Mix in the egg and maple extract until well combined.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
- Scoop and bake: Scoop dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 9–11 minutes until the edges are set and the centers are soft.
- Cool: Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before icing.
Notes
Don’t overmix the dough after adding flour—it can make cookies dense. Use real maple extract for the most authentic flavor. Slightly underbake the cookies for a softer center; they’ll continue to cook on the tray after removing from the oven. Cool cookies completely before icing to prevent melting. For even baking, rotate the cookie sheet halfway through baking time.
