Description
Korean Egg Rice (Gyeran Bap) is a beloved Korean comfort food made with warm rice, a fried egg, butter, soy sauce, and sesame oil — simple yet bursting with flavor. This easy dish is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack, and comes together in minutes with pantry staples.
Ingredients
2 cups cooked white rice (warm) 2 large eggs 1 tablespoon unsalted butter 2 teaspoons soy sauce 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds 1 green onion, finely sliced Black pepper, to taste Optional: gim (roasted seaweed), chili flakes, kimchi
Instructions
1. Cook the rice if not already done. Fluff and keep warm. 2. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Melt butter and crack in the eggs. Fry sunny-side up or to your desired doneness. 3. Divide rice between two bowls. Top each with a fried egg. 4. Drizzle each bowl with soy sauce and sesame oil. 5. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, sliced green onion, and black pepper. Add optional toppings if desired. 6. Serve immediately, mixing the yolk into the rice before eating.
Notes
• Use freshly cooked rice for the best texture. • Don’t overcook the eggs — soft yolks make the dish creamy. • Butter adds richness — don’t skip it. • Garnish generously for added flavor and presentation.
