Ingredients
Ingredients
2 (14.5 oz) cans of green beans, drained
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (optional, but recommended)
1 (28 oz) bag frozen tater tots
Cooking spray or oil for greasing the baking dish
Optional Additions
1/2 cup chopped cooked bacon or turkey bacon (if desired)
1/2 cup diced onions sautéed in butter
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika for a deeper flavor
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray or oil.
Step 2: Mix the Filling
In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and half of the shredded cheese. Stir until fully combined.
Step 3: Assemble the Casserole
Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top (if using). Then arrange the frozen tater tots over the mixture in a single layer, covering the entire surface.
Step 4: Bake
Place the casserole in the oven and bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the filling is bubbling.
Step 5: Cool and Serve
Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving. This helps everything set up nicely and makes serving easier.
Notes
- Drain canned green beans well to avoid extra liquid making the casserole runny.
- If using frozen green beans, thaw and dry them before mixing.
- Don’t thaw the tater tots before baking; they crisp up better straight from the freezer.
