Description
There’s something magical about the vibrant combination of seasoned shrimp, fresh toppings, and a tangy sauce nestled into a soft tortilla.
Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
- 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Juice of ½ lime
For the Sauce:
- ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 clove garlic, finely grated
- Pinch of salt
For the Toppings:
- 2 cups shredded cabbage or slaw mix
- ½ cup chopped cilantro
- ¼ cup diced red onion
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Lime wedges
For the Tortillas:
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
Instructions
Season the Shrimp:
In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, spices, salt, pepper, and lime juice. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes while you prepare the rest.
Make the Sauce:
Whisk together the sour cream, mayo, lime juice, hot sauce, garlic, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside or refrigerate until ready to use.
Cook the Shrimp:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until pink and opaque. Remove from heat.
Warm the Tortillas:
Use a dry skillet or open flame to warm the tortillas for a few seconds on each side until pliable and slightly charred.
Assemble the Tacos:
Fill each tortilla with shrimp, slaw, red onion, avocado, and a drizzle of sauce. Top with cilantro and a squeeze of lime.
Notes
Tropical Shrimp Tacos: Add mango salsa and drizzle with coconut crema
Low-Carb Version: Use lettuce wraps or almond flour tortillas
Grilled Shrimp Tacos: Skewer and grill the shrimp instead of pan-cooking
Spicy Chipotle Style: Use chipotle in adobo in place of chili powder for smoky heat
