Homemade Blueberry Soda : A Refreshing Drink

Looking for a refreshing, fizzy drink that’s free from artificial flavors and made with real fruit? This Homemade Blueberry Soda Recipe is exactly what you need.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh is best)
  • Chilled sparkling water or club soda, to serve
  • Ice, for serving
  • Optional garnishes: lemon slices, mint sprigs, extra blueberries

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Blueberry Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice. Stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer.

Cook for about 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the blueberries have burst and the mixture thickens slightly.

Step 2: Strain the Syrup

Place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl or jar. Pour the blueberry mixture through the strainer, pressing down on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much syrup as possible.

Discard or compost the leftover pulp, or save it to mix into yogurt or oatmeal.

Step 3: Cool the Syrup

Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then transfer it to a glass jar or airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to use. The syrup will thicken slightly as it cools.

Step 4: Mix the Soda

To serve, fill a glass with ice. Add 2–3 tablespoons of blueberry syrup (more for a stronger flavor), then top with chilled sparkling water or club soda. Stir gently to combine.

Notes

  • Use ripe, fresh blueberries for the most flavor. Frozen blueberries also work beautifully and are convenient year-round.
  • Don’t skip the lemon juice – it adds brightness and keeps the syrup from tasting flat.
  • Use cold sparkling water for the best fizz and refreshment.
