- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup (120ml) buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tbsp red gel food coloring
Bloody Jam Filling:
- ½ cup (160g) raspberry or strawberry jam
- 1 tsp cornstarch (optional)
- 1–2 drops red food coloring (optional)
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3 ½ cups (420g) powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tbsp milk or cream
- Pinch of salt
Decoration Extras:
- Red gel food coloring or red decorator gel
- Toothpicks, pipettes, or small straws for bite marks
Instructions
- Make Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line muffin tin with liners. Mix dry ingredients in one bowl and wet in another. Combine both and mix until smooth.
- Bake: Divide batter into liners, filling ⅔ full. Bake for 18–20 minutes. Let cool completely.
- Prepare Jam: Thicken jam with cornstarch if needed. Stir in red food coloring for extra blood effect. Cool before use.
- Core and Fill: Use knife or cupcake corer to remove centers. Fill each with 1–2 tsp jam.
- Make Frosting: Beat butter until fluffy, then gradually add sugar. Mix in vanilla, salt, and milk until creamy.
- Decorate: Pipe frosting on each cupcake. Poke two holes for bite marks and drip red gel or jam to resemble blood.
