  • ½ cup (120ml) buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp red gel food coloring

Bloody Jam Filling:

  • ½ cup (160g) raspberry or strawberry jam
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional)
  • 12 drops red food coloring (optional)

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 ½ cups (420g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk or cream
  • Pinch of salt

Decoration Extras:

  • Red gel food coloring or red decorator gel
  • Toothpicks, pipettes, or small straws for bite marks

Instructions

  1. Make Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line muffin tin with liners. Mix dry ingredients in one bowl and wet in another. Combine both and mix until smooth.
  2. Bake: Divide batter into liners, filling ⅔ full. Bake for 18–20 minutes. Let cool completely.
  3. Prepare Jam: Thicken jam with cornstarch if needed. Stir in red food coloring for extra blood effect. Cool before use.
  4. Core and Fill: Use knife or cupcake corer to remove centers. Fill each with 1–2 tsp jam.
  5. Make Frosting: Beat butter until fluffy, then gradually add sugar. Mix in vanilla, salt, and milk until creamy.
  6. Decorate: Pipe frosting on each cupcake. Poke two holes for bite marks and drip red gel or jam to resemble blood.
