Description

Halloween Crack is a sweet, salty, crunchy, and colorful treat perfect for Halloween parties, school events, and kid-friendly celebrations. Made with crackers, buttery toffee, melted chocolate, and festive toppings, this easy recipe is endlessly customizable and a fun decorating activity for kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4045 saltine crackers (or graham crackers for a sweeter base)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Candy eyes
  • Mini pretzels or candy corn (optional)
  • Colored candy melts (orange, purple, or green for drizzling)
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: Pinch of sea salt for sweet-salty finish

Instructions

  1. Prep the Pan: Line a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Arrange crackers in a single layer to cover the surface.
  2. Make the Toffee: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until it reaches a rolling boil. Cook for 3–4 minutes until thickened.
  3. Pour & Bake: Pour hot toffee evenly over the crackers. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
  4. Add Chocolate: Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let sit for 2 minutes, then spread evenly.
  5. Decorate: While chocolate is soft, top with candy eyes, sprinkles, candy corn, or pretzel pieces. Drizzle with melted colored candy melts if desired.
  6. Cool & Break: Let cool completely (refrigerate for faster setting), then break into pieces and serve.

Notes

  • For sweeter base: Use graham crackers instead of saltines.
  • Flavor twist: Add pumpkin spice candy melts or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, refrigerate for 2 weeks, or freeze up to 3 months with parchment between layers.
  • Kid activity: Set up a topping station with candy eyes, themed sprinkles, and colored candy melts for decorating.
  • Other holidays: Change sprinkles and candy melt colors for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or Easter.
