  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg

For the Garlic Parmesan Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Flaky sea salt, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Mix & Knead the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  2. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: First Rise

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Rolls

  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  2. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place on a greased baking sheet.

Step 5: Second Rise & Bake

  1. Cover and let the rolls rise for 30-45 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 6: Brush with Garlic Parmesan Butter

  1. Mix melted butter, garlic, Parmesan, and herbs.
  2. Brush over warm rolls and sprinkle with extra Parmesan.

Step 7: Serve & Enjoy!

  1. Let cool slightly, then serve warm with butter or dipping sauce.
