Description
There’s something timeless about comfort food — the kind of dish that warms your belly and satisfies the soul.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ onion, chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup processed cheese sauce (like Velveeta or store brand)
- 1 bag (28–32 oz) frozen French fries (crinkle cut or shoestring)
Instructions
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onions until the meat is browned and onions are soft. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Drain excess grease.
In a bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup with the cheese sauce. Mix until smooth and creamy. Stir this mixture into the cooked beef.
Spread the beef and cheese mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Top generously with frozen French fries, spreading them in a single layer.
Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the fries are golden brown and crispy on top. For extra crispiness, you can broil the top for 2–3 minutes at the end.
Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking if you want an even cheesier finish. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions before serving.
Notes
- Spice it up: Add taco seasoning to the beef and top with jalapeños.
- Meat swap: Use ground turkey or sausage for a twist.
- Veggie boost: Mix in corn, green beans, or bell peppers with the meat layer.
- Crunchy topping: Add crushed French-fried onions or cornflakes.
