  • Yield: 24 pieces 1x

Description

This Crab Rangoon Appetizer is the ultimate party favorite—crispy, golden wontons filled with creamy crab and cream cheese. Perfect as a finger food appetizer for game days, holidays, or gatherings, these homemade rangoons deliver nostalgic flavor and crowd-pleasing crunch with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 6 oz (170g) lump crab meat (fresh, canned, or imitation)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • Neutral oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
  • Optional garnishes: sesame seeds, chopped chives, sweet chili sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, mix cream cheese, crab meat, garlic, green onions, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. Assemble the rangoons: Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of a wonton wrapper. Brush edges with beaten egg and fold diagonally into a triangle or bring corners together for a pouch. Seal tightly.
  3. Heat oil: In a skillet or deep pan, heat 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Fry: Fry 3–4 rangoons at a time for about 2 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.
  5. Drain: Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve: Enjoy warm with sweet chili sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Drain crab meat well to avoid watery filling.
  • Seal edges firmly to prevent leaks during frying.
  • For a lighter option, bake at 400°F (205°C) for 12–15 minutes or air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes.
  • Test one rangoon first to adjust seasoning and check oil temperature.
  • Serve with multiple dipping sauces like sweet chili, soy garlic glaze, or spicy mayo.
