Description

Looking for an easy, hearty dinner the whole family will love? This Italian Crescent Casserole is the answer.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (8 oz) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg yolk (optional, for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.

Step 2: Cook the beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

Step 3: Season and sauce
Stir in the tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken slightly.

Step 4: Assemble the base
Pour the beef mixture into the greased baking dish and spread evenly.

Step 5: Add cheese
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the beef mixture.

Step 6: Layer the crescent dough
Unroll the crescent dough and lay it over the top, pinching seams together to create one solid sheet. You can slightly stretch it to fit the dish.

Step 7: Add toppings
Brush the top with beaten egg yolk for a glossy finish and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Step 8: Bake
Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and fully cooked.

Step 9: Rest and serve
Let it cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Drain the beef well to avoid a greasy bottom layer.
  • Use crescent dough sheets if available to avoid pinching seams.
  • Don’t overbake — once the top is golden and the cheese is melted, it’s ready.
