Ingredients
Scale
For the Meatloaf:
- 2 lbs ground beef (mix with pork for added flavor)
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
For the Glaze:
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven and prepare the loaf pan: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Prepare the meat mixture: Combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the meatloaf: Transfer the mixture to the loaf pan, shaping it evenly.
- Make the glaze: In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Stir until smooth.
- Bake the meatloaf: Spread half of the glaze over the meatloaf. Bake for 45 minutes, then add the remaining glaze. Bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Rest and serve: Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with mashed potatoes or your favorite sides.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the meat: Overmixing can result in a dense meatloaf. Mix just until ingredients are combined.
- Use lean ground beef: Opt for 80/20 ground beef for the best balance of fat and flavor.
- Customize the glaze: Feel free to experiment with BBQ sauce or honey mustard in place of the classic glaze ingredients.
