Ingredients
For the Roll-Ups:
- 8 slices sandwich bread (white or brioche works best)
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
For the French Toast Coating:
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon brown butter (or melted butter)
For Topping and Serving (Optional):
- Maple syrup
- Powdered sugar
- Whipped cream
- Fresh fruit
Instructions
Remove the crusts from each slice of sandwich bread. Use a rolling pin to flatten them into thin rectangles.
In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
Brush each flattened slice of bread with a little melted butter, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Roll up the bread tightly and set aside.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and brown butter until smooth.
Heat a skillet over medium heat and grease with butter or oil. Dip each rolled-up French toast into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, turning frequently, until golden brown and crispy.
While warm, roll each French toast roll-up in more cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or whipped cream.
