Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (280g)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (50g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (2g)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (226g), softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
  • 1/4 cup milk (60ml)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheets: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: Beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract, and beat until combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined. Add milk and mix until dough comes together.
  5. Roll Out the Dough: Roll dough to about 1/8-inch thick on a floured surface. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  6. Bake: Place cookies on the baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set. Allow to cool.
  7. Cool and Decorate: Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool. Decorate with frosting, sprinkles, or edible glitter as desired.

Notes

  • Chill the Dough: If dough is too soft to work with, chill for 30 minutes before rolling it out.
  • Use a Rolling Pin with Guides: For evenly rolled cookies, use a rolling pin with adjustable thickness guides.
  • Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Freezing: Freeze the baked cookies for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
