Description

This **Instant Pot Zippy’s Chili** brings the nostalgic flavor of Hawaii right to your kitchen — rich, meaty, slightly sweet, and irresistibly comforting. Made with ground beef, Portuguese sausage, beans, and a savory-sweet sauce of soy, ketchup, and Worcestershire, this Hawaiian chili is hearty, saucy, and perfect over rice, hot dogs, or fries. Ready in under 45 minutes in the Instant Pot, it’s a quick and cozy taste of the islands.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb Portuguese sausage, diced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15 oz) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (shoyu)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Optional: Hawaiian chili water for extra heat

Instructions

  1. Sauté meat & aromatics: Set Instant Pot to sauté. Brown ground beef and Portuguese sausage with onion and garlic. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add sauce & seasoning: Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, Worcestershire, chili powder, and paprika.
  3. Add beans & liquid: Mix in kidney beans, pinto beans, and water. Stir well.
  4. Pressure cook: Seal lid, cook on HIGH pressure for 10 minutes. Natural release 10 minutes, then quick release.
  5. Serve: Adjust seasoning. Serve over rice, with Hawaiian rolls, or as a chili topping.

Notes

  • Portuguese sausage adds authentic smoky flavor — sub with andouille if needed.
  • Hawaiian chili water adds heat and tang for true island flair.
  • Serve with rice, fries, or even eggs for breakfast.
  • Freezer-friendly up to 3 months; reheat with a splash of water or broth.
  • Distinctly different from Texas chili — sweeter, soy-forward, and rice-friendly.
