Instructions

  1. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth.
  2. Add cherries and cereal: Remove from heat and quickly stir in dried cherries and Rice Krispies cereal until evenly coated.
  3. Press into dish: Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using a greased spatula or wax paper, press evenly to compact the treats.
  4. Add chocolate topping: Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between, until smooth. Drizzle or spread melted chocolate over the top.
  5. Chill and set: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set the chocolate and firm up the treats before cutting.

Notes

Use mini marshmallows for a smoother melt and better coating. Stir the cherries in quickly to prevent marshmallows from setting too fast. Grease your spatula or hands to press treats without sticking. For a shiny chocolate finish, temper the chocolate or add a teaspoon of coconut oil when melting. Experiment with cherry varieties—dried tart cherries offer a tangy contrast, while sweet cherries add subtle sweetness.
