Description

If you’re searching for a quick, easy, and delicious dinner that your whole family will love, this Cheesy Kielbasa Rice and Broccoli Skillet recipe is a fantastic choice.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 450g kielbasa sausage, sliced into ½-inch rounds
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) uncooked white rice
  • 3 cups (300g) fresh broccoli florets
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 cups (720ml) chicken broth or stock
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 1 ½ cups (170g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the kielbasa: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced kielbasa and cook until browned and slightly crispy, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In the same skillet, add diced onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and smoked paprika and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add rice and liquids: Pour in uncooked rice, stirring to coat it with the oil and aromatics. Add chicken broth and milk. Stir well and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook broccoli and simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, scatter broccoli florets evenly on top without stirring. Cover and continue cooking for another 8-10 minutes until rice is tender and broccoli is crisp-tender.
  5. Add cheese and kielbasa: Return the cooked kielbasa to the skillet. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes until cheese melts.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot straight from the skillet.

Notes

Use fresh broccoli for the best texture; frozen broccoli can make the dish soggy. Don’t stir the broccoli into the rice during cooking to keep it from overcooking and turning mushy. For extra smoky flavor, try adding a dash of smoked paprika or a pinch of cayenne pepper. To make it creamier, stir in a splash of cream or extra cheese before serving. Let the skillet rest covered for a few minutes after cooking to allow the flavors to meld.
