  • Author: Lyndy
  • Total Time: 32 minutes

  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These Cauldron Cookies are whimsical Halloween cookie cups that look like bubbling witch’s cauldrons. Made with sugar cookie dough, filled with colorful candies, and topped with frosting “potions,” they’re festive, kid-friendly, and perfect for parties, classroom treats, or spooky baking fun at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package refrigerated sugar cookie dough (or homemade)
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 1 ½ cups assorted small candies (M&Ms, Skittles, Sixlets, or mini gumballs)
  • Black food coloring (optional, for dough or frosting)
  • ½ cup green frosting (store-bought or homemade buttercream)
  • 1 cup chocolate sprinkles
  • Pretzel sticks or licorice ropes (for cauldron “handles”)
  • Optional extras: candy eyeballs, gummy worms, Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Make cookie cups: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a muffin tin. Cut dough into 12 pieces and press into muffin cups to form bowls.
  2. Bake & cool: Bake 10–12 minutes until golden. Press centers down with a spoon to form cavities. Let cool fully before removing.
  3. Decorate rims: Spread chocolate frosting on edges and dip into chocolate sprinkles for a cauldron look.
  4. Fill with candies: Spoon colorful candies into each cookie cup.
  5. Add potion effect: Pipe green frosting around the edges to look like bubbling potion. Add candy eyeballs, sprinkles, or gummy worms.
  6. Add handles: Insert pretzel sticks or licorice pieces on sides for cauldron handles.
  7. Serve & enjoy: Arrange on a spooky platter or cupcake stand for a festive Halloween treat.

Notes

  • Chill dough before baking to help cups hold shape.
  • Use dark chocolate dough for an authentic cauldron look.
  • Don’t overfill with candies—leave room for frosting.
  • Let cookie cups cool completely before decorating.
  • Get kids involved by letting them decorate their own mini cauldrons.
