  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Salt, to taste

For Serving:

  • Burger buns (optional)
  • Cheese slices (cheddar, Swiss, or American)
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles, or other desired toppings

Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook 10 minutes, then stir in brown sugar. Continue cooking 15–20 minutes until golden and tender. Set aside.
  2. Form Patties: Divide beef into 4 balls. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat Skillet: Preheat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Add vegetable oil.
  4. Smash Patties: Place beef balls on hot skillet. Smash flat with a spatula. Cook 3–4 minutes until browned.
