- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for greasing dish)
For the Vanilla Sauce:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare Bread: Cube day-old bread. Lightly toast if needed. Set aside.
- Mix Custard: In a bowl, whisk milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
- Soak Bread: Add bread to custard, stir gently, and let sit 10–15 minutes. Stir in raisins if using.
- Assemble: Butter a 9×9-inch baking dish. Pour in soaked bread mixture and spread evenly.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden and set in center.
- Make Sauce: While baking, heat cream, butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt in saucepan over medium, stirring until smooth. Do not boil.
- Serve: Cool pudding slightly. Slice and drizzle with warm vanilla sauce. Enjoy!
