Instructions

  1. Prepare Bread: Cube day-old bread. Lightly toast if needed. Set aside.
  2. Mix Custard: In a bowl, whisk milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
  3. Soak Bread: Add bread to custard, stir gently, and let sit 10–15 minutes. Stir in raisins if using.
  4. Assemble: Butter a 9×9-inch baking dish. Pour in soaked bread mixture and spread evenly.
  5. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden and set in center.
  6. Make Sauce: While baking, heat cream, butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt in saucepan over medium, stirring until smooth. Do not boil.
  7. Serve: Cool pudding slightly. Slice and drizzle with warm vanilla sauce. Enjoy!
