Description

Looking for a show-stopping appetizer that’s creamy, cheesy, and packed with East Coast flavor? This Best Maryland Crab Dip is everything you’ve been craving.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 lb (450g) lump crab meat (fresh or pasteurized, NOT imitation)
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions or chives
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat and Prep

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a medium-sized baking dish or oven-safe skillet.

2. Mix the Base

In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayo, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic, lemon juice, and Old Bay seasoning. Mix until smooth and well-blended.

3. Add the Cheese

Stir in half of the shredded cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, and green onions.

4. Fold in the Crab

Gently fold in the crab meat, being careful not to break up the lumps too much. You want those big, juicy chunks in every bite.

5. Transfer and Top

Spoon the mixture into your prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and a light sprinkle of Old Bay.

6. Bake Until Bubbly

Bake for 20–25 minutes until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling. You can broil for an extra 1–2 minutes at the end to get a crispy top.

7. Serve Hot

Serve warm, straight from the oven with your choice of dippers.

Once baked, this Maryland crab dip has a rich, creamy center with a golden, cheesy crust that guests will dig into instantly.

Notes

  • Go for lump crab meat if available. It’s flavorful, tender, and holds up well.
  • Fresh or pasteurized is best, found in the refrigerated seafood section.
  • Avoid canned crab or imitation crab, as they lack flavor and texture.
  • Drain excess liquid before using, especially if using pasteurized crab meat
