Description

This beef and broccoli recipe is a quick, savory, and healthy dinner that beats takeout any night of the week. Made with tender beef strips, crisp broccoli, and a glossy garlic-ginger soy sauce, it’s ready in under 30 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, or when you want a restaurant-quality meal at home, this dish is simple, budget-friendly, and endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain
  • 1 lb (450g) broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Optional Garnish: sesame seeds, sliced green onions, red chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Slice the Beef: Thinly slice flank steak across the grain for tenderness.
  2. Mix the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water. Set aside.
  3. Sauté Broccoli: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet or wok. Stir-fry broccoli for 3–4 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook Beef: Add remaining oil, then beef. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned. Add garlic and ginger, cooking for 1 more minute.
  5. Combine: Return broccoli to skillet. Pour in sauce and stir to coat. Cook 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens and glossy.
  6. Serve: Plate hot over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly across the grain for tenderness.
  • Don’t overcook broccoli—it should stay crisp-tender and vibrant.
  • If you prefer extra sauce, double the sauce recipe.
  • For spice, add red chili flakes or sriracha.
  • Can be made gluten-free with tamari instead of soy sauce.
