Banana Split Dump Cake : The Ultimate Recipe

When you combine the joy of a banana split with the ease of a dump cake, the result is this irresistibly gooey, sweet, and nostalgic dessert: the Banana Split Dump Cake Recipe.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 (20 oz) can crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (or white cake mix)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ⅓ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Optional toppings (after baking):

  • Whipped cream
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Chocolate or caramel drizzle
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1 – Preheat and prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish lightly with nonstick spray or butter.

Step 2 – Add the fruit layers
Evenly layer the sliced bananas at the bottom of the dish. Spoon the crushed pineapple over the bananas, then spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the top.

Step 3 – Add cake mix and toppings
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit. Do not stir! Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, trying to moisten as much of it as possible. Then sprinkle the chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts over the top.

Step 4 – Bake
Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly. Some areas may still look soft—that’s okay! The gooey parts are the best part of a dump cake.

Step 5 – Cool and serve
Let the cake cool for 10–15 minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and your favorite banana split toppings.

Notes

  • Whipped cream + maraschino cherries: Classic and beautiful
  • Chocolate or caramel drizzle: Adds richness and flavor contrast
  • Chopped peanuts or almonds: For crunch and saltiness
  • Shredded coconut: A tropical twist
