Apple Brownies – A Cozy Fall Dessert with Fresh Apple Flavor

  • Author: Lyndy
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 16 bars 1x

Description

Apple Brownies are chewy, spiced dessert bars that capture all the cozy warmth of fall. Made with fresh apples, brown sugar, butter, and a hint of cinnamon, these treats are part cake, part blondie, and completely irresistible. Perfect for Thanksgiving, fall potlucks, or weekend baking, each bite offers a sweet, nostalgic blend of apples and spice with a soft, chewy center and caramelized crust.

Ingredients

Scale
    • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, melted
    • 2 cups (400g) brown sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
    • 2 cups (about 2 medium) apples, peeled and chopped
    • ½ cup (60g) chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

  • Optional Toppings: Powdered sugar or vanilla glaze (powdered sugar + milk + vanilla)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease lightly.
  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add to wet mixture until combined.
  4. Add apples: Fold in chopped apples and nuts (if using). Batter will be thick and chunky.
  5. Bake: Spread evenly in the pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool and slice: Let cool completely before cutting. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle glaze on top.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best flavor.
  • Don’t overmix — it keeps the bars chewy and moist.
  • Line the pan with parchment for easy removal.
  • Cool before slicing for neat squares.
  • For a healthier version, replace half the butter with applesauce.
