Amish White Bread Recipe : The Best Soft, Homemade Loaf You’ll Ever Bake

  • Author: Lyndy

Description

This Amish White Bread is soft, fluffy, slightly sweet, and perfect for sandwiches, toast, or weekly homemade baking. A beginner-friendly yeast bread with simple pantry ingredients and a nostalgic homemade flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
  • ⅔ cup white sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour (divided)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Dissolve the sugar in warm water in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix Dough: Add the oil and salt, then add flour one cup at a time until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead: Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
  4. First Rise: Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turn once to coat, cover with a towel, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Shape Loaves: Punch down the dough, divide into two equal parts, shape into loaves, and place into two greased 9×5-inch pans.
  6. Second Rise: Cover pans and let dough rise until about 1 inch above the pan rim (30–40 minutes).
  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. Cool: Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
