- ⅔ cup white sugar
- 1½ tablespoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1½ teaspoons salt
- 6 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: Dissolve the sugar in warm water in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix Dough: Add the oil and salt, then add flour one cup at a time until a soft dough forms.
- Knead: Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
- First Rise: Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turn once to coat, cover with a towel, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled.
- Shape Loaves: Punch down the dough, divide into two equal parts, shape into loaves, and place into two greased 9×5-inch pans.
- Second Rise: Cover pans and let dough rise until about 1 inch above the pan rim (30–40 minutes).
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Cool: Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
