Description

Nothing says comfort food quite like a homemade Amish Hamburger Steak Bake. This hearty, oven-baked dish is full of rich flavors

Ingredients

Scale

For the Hamburger Patties:

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons flour (or cornstarch for gluten-free)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional for extra flavor)

For Baking:

  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

are the Hamburger Patties

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into thick, even-sized patties (about ½-inch thick).
  3. Lightly sear the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side (this locks in the juices!).

Step 2: Make the Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions until softened.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, whisking until smooth.
  4. Let the gravy thicken for 3-5 minutes.

Step 3: Assemble and Bake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Place the seared hamburger patties in the dish and pour the gravy on top.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy!

Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted veggies!

Notes

✔️ Use fresh, high-quality ground beef for the juiciest patties.
✔️ Searing the patties before baking adds rich flavor.
✔️ Don’t skip the gravy! It keeps the patties moist and delicious.
