Ingredients
Scale
For the Bars:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
For the Glaze:
- 1½ cups (180g) powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp almond extract
- Optional: slivered almonds for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in almond extract.
- Gradually add flour and mix just until combined.
- Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While bars cool slightly, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract to make the glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over warm bars and sprinkle with slivered almonds if desired.
- Let glaze set completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use softened butter for the best texture.
- Do not overmix once flour is added to keep bars tender.
- Glazing while slightly warm helps the glaze settle smoothly.
- For richer flavor, add 2–3 tbsp almond paste to the batter.
- Allow bars to cool fully before slicing for clean edges.
